Max Scherzer's season got even better on Monday.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland announced that Scherzer, who is 13-1 with a 3.19 ERA, will start Tuesday's All-Star Game.
"Thirteen-and-1 Max Scherzer, I don't think I need to explain it any more than that," Leyland told the assembled media in New York.
After his start Saturday against the Texas Rangers, his first loss of the season, Scherzer was asked what it would mean to him to start the All-Star Game.
"It would mean a lot," Scherzer said. "I just know how many great pitchers there are in the game, and I mean, the other pitchers who are on top of their game right now, and how well they’re pitching. So, if I get the nod over those guys, I mean, that’s a real nice moment."
Leyland also announced his lineup, which had Miguel Cabrera batting third, as he usually does for the Tigers.
The AL lineup: 1) Mike Trout, LF; 2) Robinson Cano, 2B; 3) Cabrera, 3B; 4) Chris Davis, 1B; 5) Jose Bautista, RF; 6) David Ortiz, DH; 7) Adam Jones, CF; 8) Joe Mauer, C; 9) J.J. Hardy, SS.
San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy named the New York Mets' Matt Harvey his starter. Harvey is 7-2 with a 2.35 ERA.
The NL lineup: 1) Brandon Phillips, 2B; 2) Carlos Beltran, RF; 3) Joey Votto, 1B; 4) David Wright, 3B; 5) Carlos Gonzalez, LF; 6) Yadier Molina, C; 7) Troy Tulowitzki, SS; 8) Michael Cuddyer, DH; 9) Bryce Harper, CF.
The All-Star Game can be seen on FOX at 7:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
