Following a strong showing in the Orlando Classic, Marquette redshirt freshman guard Duane Wilson was picked as the Big East's Rookie of the Week.

Wilson averaged 17.3 points and shot 47.7 percent from the field in four games to help Marquette to a 3-1 record and a third-place finish at the Orlando Classic. He's the first freshman to win the award for Marquette since Vander Blue on Dec. 13, 2010.

In his first career start on Nov. 24 against NJIT, Wilson prevented an upset from occurring by scoring 14 of his 18 points in the second half, including going 9 for 10 from the foul line.

Wilson scored six points against Georgia Tech in the Orlando Classic opener on Thanksgiving, but he came back the next day to tally 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting in Marquette's loss to Michigan State.

In the third-place game Sunday, Wilson scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Golden Eagles to a 67-59 victory over Tennessee. The Whitefish Bay (Wis.) Dominican High School product finished 9 of 17 from the field, 5 of 9 from beyond the arc and 7 of 8 from the foul line.

After redshirting last season due to a fractured left leg, Wilson has emerged as an impact player for the Golden Eagles, averaging 14.0 points over Marquette's first seven games.
