MILWAUKEE -- Marquette freshman forward Steve Taylor Jr. underwent surgery Wednesday morning to remove a benign growth on his right knee, the school announced Friday.
The surgery was performed by Marquette basketball's orthopedic surgeon Ted Gertel at Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee and is expected to keep Taylor sidelined for three to four months. Though Taylor, a 6-7, 230-pound forward, will miss a valuable summer in his development, he should be ready to go by the time preseason practice rolls around.
The procedure corrected an issued that had existed for a number of years. Taylor is expected to be released from the hospital sometime Friday.
Taylor played in all 35 of Marquette's games during his freshman season, averaging 3.0 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while showing tremendous potential.
