Returning nine players from an Elite Eight team and picked to win the Big East, Marquette University finds itself ranked 17th in the preseason USA Today coaches poll released Thursday morning.
The Golden Eagles are the only member of the new-look Big East to be ranked in the poll, as Creighton and Georgetown were among those receiving votes.
Three of Marquette's non-conference opponents are ranked by the coaches, as Ohio State is 10th, New Mexico is 20th and Wisconsin is 21st. Arizona State, Marquette's toughest true road non-conference game, received two votes.
After falling to Syracuse in the Elite Eight, Marquette was ranked 11th in the final USA Today coaches poll of last season.
