Marquette leaps to No. 15 in AP poll

MILWAUKEE -- Following a week that featured two home wins over ranked opponents, Marquette University jumped up seven spots in the AP poll and five places in the coaches poll.
The Golden Eagles are now ranked No. 15 in the AP poll and No. 17 in the coaches poll. The AP has both Syracuse and St. Louis ranked below Marquette, while the coaches have both teams ahead of the Golden Eagles.
Marquette's week began with a 74-71 victory over then-No. 12 Syracuse and was capped with a 72-64 win over then-No. 21 Notre Dame. The Golden Eagles wrapped up their home schedule a perfect 16-0 and extended their home winning streak to 25 games – good for second-longest in the nation.
Marquette is one of six Big East teams ranked in both polls, the most of any conference. Georgetown leads the way at No. 5 in both polls, followed by Louisville at No. 8 in the AP poll and No. 6 in the coaches poll. Syracuse comes in at No. 17 in the AP poll and No. 16 in the coaches poll, Pittsburgh is No. 20 in the AP poll and No. 22 in the coaches' poll, while Notre Dame is No. 24 in both polls.
Now 21-7 overall and 12-4 in Big East play, Marquette is tied with Louisville for second place, one game behind Georgetown with two games to play. The Golden Eagles have already locked up a double-bye and a top four seed in the Big East Tournament, but needs wins at Rutgers on Tuesday and at St. John's on Saturday to have a shot at the regular season conference crown.
