Marquette University basketball coach Buzz Williams announced Saturday that he has added Jeff Reynolds to his staff, as director of basketball operations for the 2012-13 season.

Reynolds will assume the responsibilities of first-year staff member Jerry Wainwright, who will become an assistant coach for the rest of this season.

"We are very thankful that Coach Reynolds has agreed to fill the position through the academic year," Williams said in a statement. "It's extremely uncommon to have an opportunity like this, to hire someone with his experience and knowledge at this late of a date."

"His hiring obviously strengthens our team for the 2012-13 season, while also giving us the flexibility to decide at the end of the year what is best, relative to our staff, on the direction for everyone to go at that point."

Reynolds, 56, recently spent five seasons (2007-12) as the head coach at Air Force. Prior to taking over as the Falcons' coach, Reynolds served as an assistant  for two seasons with the program -- a two-year stretch during which Air Force was one of just 17 Division I teams to win at least 50 total games. Earlier in his career, Reynolds served as an assistant at Tulane, North Carolina-Greensboro, UNC-Wilmington, Winthrop and Randolph-Macon.

A native of Mountain City, Tenn., Reynolds also spent time as the head coach at Division II Wingate (N.C.) University and at North Carolina Wesleyan College early in his career. He began his coaching career in 1981, serving as a part-time assistant for James Madison.
