The Miami Marlins optioned right-hander Anthony DeSclafani to Triple-A New Orleans, while recalling catcher J.T. Realmuto from AA Jacksonville prior to Friday night's game against the Houston Astros.
DeSclafani was called up Sunday as an extra arm for a taxed bullpen but did not pitch since joining the Marlins. Over five big-league starts, DeSclafani is 1-2 with a 7.40 ERA.
Realmuto, who made his major-league debut in June with starter Jarrod Saltalamacchia on the concussion list, went 4 for 20 with five RBI in seven games. In 71 games with the Suns, Realmuto was batting .301 with 21 doubles, six homers and 46 RBI.
