Marlins place reliever Carter Capps on DL with right elbow sprain
Miami Marlins right-handed reliever Carter Capps was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to May 26) with a right elbow sprain Tuesday afternoon.
It is the same injury that initially sent ace Jose Fernandez to the DL on May 12.
Capps, whom the Marlins acquired in the Logan Morrison trade and who started the season in Triple-A New Orleans, was 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA in nine games since being recalled from the Zephyrs on April 23.
The 23-year-old has given up three runs on four hits over his past two outings with two walks and just one strikeout. He didn't allow a run in six of his first seven appearances. His velocity wasn't down on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Three times his fastball touched 99 mph on the radar gun.
Right-handed reliever Arquimedes Caminero was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans, where he was 1-1 with a 6.63 ERA in 11 games. Over 19 innings, he surrendered 16 runs (14 earned) on 20 hits with 24 strikeouts and 10 walks.
Prior to being sent down, Caminero was 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA in five big-league appearances this season. In his last outing April 21 in Atlanta, the Braves scored two runs on two hits, chasing him before he recorded an out. Capps replaced him in the bullpen.
