MINNEAPOLIS -- The 2011 WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx will begin defense of their title Sunday, May 20, with an 11:30 a.m. game against Phoenix at Target Center.

The team released its 2012 schedule on Thursday, and its first game will be on ABC as one of four nationally televised contests this season.

The team’s 14th season consists of 34 regular-season games from May 20 through Sept. 23. The WNBA will break from July 14 to Aug. 15 to allow WNBA players compete for their countries in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Minnesota's 17-game home schedule features 10 weekend dates (three Friday, three Saturday, four Sunday) as well as two Tuesday games, two Wednesday matchups and three Thursday contests.

Minnesota will host its annual afternoon camp day game, a noon tipoff against the Tulsa Shock, on Thursday, July 12.
