MINNEAPOLIS -- The Lynx quickly became disappointed with reserve point guard Lindsey Moore's progression so far in her second WNBA season.
Tuesday, coach Cheryl Reeve and her front office mates revealed the extent of their discouragement. The defending league champions waived their first-round draft pick from 2013, signing guard Nadirah McKenith to take her place. Moore appeared in 12 games this season and averaged 1.1 points, 1.2 assists and 8.5 minutes per contest.
"Lindsey Moore has been a true professional and we wish her nothing but the best," Lynx executive vice president Roger Griffith said in a statement.
Moore finishes her short stint with the Lynx having appeared in 35 games and averaging one point, 1.1 assists, 0.6 rebounds and 6.6 minutes per contest. She was tabbed early as the protege for veteran point guard Lindsay Whalen but never gained a full grasp of Minnesota's offense.
She couldn't find the hole when she was inserted into games, either. On 46 career field-goal attempts, she shot 23.9 percent.
Reeve expressed dissatisfaction with Moore's performance even before the season began.
"She, frankly, the first couple weeks of training camp, didn't take any step from what we saw from last year," Reeve said. "I was concerned for Lindsey."
The Washington Mystics drafted McKenith, a 5-foot-7 St. John's product, in the second round (17th overall) of the 2013 draft. She averaged 2.8 points, 1.1 rebounds and 8.8 minutes per game as a rookie.
"We are excited to welcome Nadirah to the Minnesota Lynx organization,â Griffith said. âThe energy and work ethic Nadirah brings to the table fits in perfectly with the team we have in place."
