Lynx pick up three guards in WNBA Draft

MINNEAPOLIS -- In the deepest WNBA draft in years, the Lynx had their latest pick in franchise history, no. 12. Nine spots after the big three of Brittney Griner, Elena Delle Donne and Skylar Diggins had been snatched off the board, Minnesota used its pick to select Lindsey Moore, a 5-foot-9 guard out of Nebraska.

Moore will be one of just two true guards -- along with veteran Lindsay Whalen -- on the team's roster this season. During her college career, she set both career and season records at Nebraska for assists, logging 699 over her four years and 195 during the 2012-13 season.

Nebraska advanced to its second Sweet 16 in four years this spring under Moore's leadership, and she was an honorable mention All-America this year as well. Moore also holds Nebraska career records with 94 career victories, 132 career starts and 4,360 minutes played. Her senior season, she averaged 15.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 5.7 assists.

The Lynx currently have 11 players, the WNBA maximum, signed to their roster before the addition of Moore, and so a competition for that 11th spot will ensue in training camp. Two of those players already signed, though, are rookies: Jacki Gemelos, a 2012 pick, and Rachel Jarry, a 2011 pick. Gemelos has battled five ACL tears in high school and college, whereas Jarry remained in her native Australia through the 2012 Olympics, thus delaying her transition to the league.

With the 14th overall pick, the Lynx selected Sugar Rodgers, a 5-foot-11 guard out of Georgetown who led the Hoyas last season in scoring with 18.5 points per game.

The Lynx added Colorado guard Chucky Jeffery with the 24th pick and North Carolina center Waltiea Rolle with the 36th pick.
