MINNEAPOLIS -- Kevin Love may not be available when the Timberwolves face the Miami Heat this Saturday. If he is, he'll play with a heavy heart against the defending NBA champions.
Minnesota announced Thursday that Love's maternal grandmother, Carol Lee Craig, passed away Wednesday night while the team flew back from Mexico City, where its game against San Antonio was postponed due to a fire at Mexico City Arena. Love won't practice Friday and "his status for Saturday’s game against Miami at Target Center is presently unknown," the team's release said.
Love also was scheduled to meet and greet fans Friday at East Phillips Park Cultural and Community Center in Minneapolis and a Sprint store in Roseville as part of his annual Kevin Love Coat Drive but now won't be at either location.
"The Timberwolves organization is deeply saddened to learn of the passing late last night of Carol Lee Craig, Kevin Love’s maternal grandmother," the team's statement said. "The Timberwolves send our condolences to the Love family in this difficult time."
