RED DEER, Alberta (AP) Matthew Tkachuk scored his second goal of the game 7:49 into overtime to give the London Knights a 3-2 victory over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Sunday in the Memorial Cup championship game.
''It actually might have hit off (Christian Dvorak's) back, it changed directions a little bit, doesn't matter, we'll both take it,'' Tkachuk said.
Said Dvorak: ''I felt something hit me, but I don't really care. Winning's all that matters,''
Also the 2005 Canadian Hockey League champion, London finished the season with 17 straight victories, including the Ontario Hockey League playoffs.
''To win so many games in a row through the playoffs and this tournament is a credit to these guys because we're playing good teams,'' Knights coach Dale Hunter said. ''These are all the top-end teams. To go 17 in a row is unheard of. Likely never be repeated.''
Dvorak tied it with 4:11 left in the third with his tournament-leading seventh goal, and Tyler Parsons made 29 saves for the Knights.
''To go out as a Memorial Cup champion is the best way to go out.''
London's Mitchell Marner was named the tournament's most valuable player. He had a tournament-best 14 points on two goals and 12 assists in four games.
Francis Perron and Julien Nantel scored for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champion Huskies. Chase Marchand made 30 saves.
''It was a big challenge for us today, but we were confident to win this game,'' Huskies coach Gilles Bouchard said. ''Our players played like champions, so I'm very proud of the team today.''
Tkachuk opened the scoring with 10:41 to play in the second, tipping in a saucer pass from Marner. The lead lasted only 15 seconds as Perron beat Parsons from the goal crease. Nantel scored 9:13 into the third to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead - and London its first deficit of the entire tournament.
London beat Rouyn-Noranda 5-2 in round-robin play.
