Little discusses his speed - the bad kind - with media

BEREA -- Greg Little faced the media Thursday after practice when news had broken that he had numerous speeding tickets and driving infractions, including getting a speeding ticket in April for driving 127 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.
Little was asked what he learned though all this.
"Obviously, it's something I have to take seriously and slow my speed down as there are others on the road," he said. "I could seriously put my life and other people's lives in danger.
"It's just a very careless effort on my part."
Little was asked what he was thinking when he was driving 127 miles an hour.
"It was just a mindless, careless effort on my behalf and not just thinking at all," he said. "Just being careless about the fact that there are laws for the roads and not just abiding by them."
Little said he hit a pot hole and the impact burst his tires. He hit his brakes and ended up hitting a guard rail and a light pole.
Little said that the Browns knew about the incident the day it happened on April 18.
"The team and the front office knew back in April when it happened and it hasn't been a distraction until now."
Little said he talked with Rob Chudzinski and wants to put the matter behind him.
"It's obviously a disappointment and we had talked about this long before this situation came out," he said. "We've moved forward and I will conduct myself accordingly and move on from it."
Little had several violations according to the public records file on the Cleveland Municipal Court website. He was pulled over earlier this week for speeding and expired plates, causing much of the violations to come to light. Teammate Josh Gordon also has had driving infractions, including driving 45 mph in a 25 zone and 98 mph in a 60 mph zone.
Gordon wasn't available for comment. Chudzinski said he has addressed both of the receivers.
"We take that seriously. it's not acceptable," Chudzinski said after Thursday's practice. "I've sat down with both of those guys individually and talked to them and have addressed it with them as well as with the team."
Chudzinski said he was extremely clear in addressing them. He said both Little and Gordon are remorseful for their actions.
"They are and they understand exactly where I'm coming from," he said. "I got into very specific details with them."
Chudzinski would not say if the players have been punished or will be.
"I'm going to keep all of those things internally," he said. "I addressed it and we'll handle it internally.
"It's not acceptable and details beyond that, I'm not going to get into."
Chudzinski said the players would not be held out of the Colts game, but didn't say if it would go beyond that.
"As far as this game, No." .
Little said that he thinks it's been dealt with back in April when it first happened and doesn't think it will involve playing time. "No i don't think so," he said. "I've been playing and it happened a while back. We've moved forward, worked hard and tried to get better on the field."
Chudzinski is trying to get the Browns ready for his first NFL season and was asked about dealing with these type of situations.
"It's part of the job," he said. "All types of things come up and it's not a distraction unless you make it a distraction."
Chudzinski says it's his goal to build a mature locker room.
"All these guys are guys that are learning how to mature," he said. "We're working to build a locker room and a team and a foundation of guys that are accountable and that's what being a Brown is all about."
Little said since the incident he's tried to put that behind him and just rebuild his reputation by working hard and doing what he's supposed to do.
"As coach said, he talked to the team, and no matter how many good things you have done, it could be one thing to set you back and create a bad reputation for you," he said. "I'm trying to move forward and do the necessary things so I do have a good reputation and these things don't necessarily tarnish my reputation."
Bryant, Bogotay to Miss Colts: Chudzinski ruled out DL Desmond Bryant (back) and K Brandon Bogotay (groin) will miss the third preseason game.
"Desmond Bryant and Brandon Bogotay will be out this week and will not play (against the Colts," Chudzinski said.
Bryant has been dealing with back spasms throughout training camp, but Chudzinski isn't concerned.
"He's been dealing with it before the past few weeks and it's just a good time to rest him," he said. "He's gotten a lot of work in and we'll have him ready for the first game. (There are) no concerns there."
Chudzinski said that DL Billy Winn will replace Bryant.
Bryant said he thinks he'll be alright for the regular season.
"My back doesn't feel right right now, so I want to be as healthy as possible before I'm out there," he said. "'I've never missed any time for my back. I don't foresee that happening. I just get my treatment and other than I should be fine."
Sheard, Bess, Owens Out Again: WR Davone Bess missed practice Thursday. He was given the day off for 'rest' on Wednesday. OLB Jabaal Sheard also sat out with a knee. Chudzinski said both players could play in the regular season, but they are being cautious with them.
"They would be fine for a regular season game, but they will be questionable for the game," he said "We want to be smart with them."
Sheard said out for the second-straight day.
"He just has a sore knee," Chudzinski said "He could've practiced and played this week, if it was the regular season, no doubt."
Chudzinski said Bess was dealing with 'a little tendinitis' in his knee, but Bess said it wasn't an issue.
"It's not a knee issue, it's just overall rest," Bess said. "if it was a regular season game I wold be able to play.
"It's more all the pounding from camp and it's just a good opportnity to get ready for the regular season," he said. "It helps tremendously (to rest). It's a great opportunity to rest up physically and mentally. It's a long season and it allows me to just get ready."
DB Chris Owens also sat out Thursday's practice. Chudzinski said all three players are questionable for the Colts game. LB Quentin Groves would start for Sheard, if he doesn't play, while WR Travis Benjamin or WR Josh Cooper would fill in for Bess. CB Buster Skrine would start for Owens, but CB Leon McFadden would be the third cornerback if Owens doesn't play.
Owens said he will be ready for the opener, "I'll be ready to go week one." Other players that did not practice Thursday were: TE Gary Barnidge (shoulder), DL Desmond Bryant (back), DB Chris Owens (foot), K Brandon Bogotay (groin), WR Jordan Norwood (hamstring) and OL Ryan Miller (head). Mingo was on the stationary bike during the beginning of practice.
Cousins to Start: Veteran OL Oniel Cousins will start against the Colts with OL Jason Pinkston and OL Shawn Lauvao still nursing ankle injuries according to Chudzinski.
"Oneil has more experience and obviously has been back and practicing well," he said "(Garrett Gilkey will get opportunities as well with the first group and we'll just see how the game goes and try to get both of them a lot of reps."
Cousins has played primarily right tackle in his career, but did play one game in the NFL at right guard while he was with the Ravens.
"My mentality is to always be ready to play, whatever position," he said. "This is a great opportunity for me and a great challenge but i'm going to go in there and give it my best. I'm really confident to get in there."
Cousins said he started working at right guard after Pinkston's injury. Cousins missed two weeks of training camp with an ankle injury, as well.
Chudzinski said there is no reason Cousins can't make the adjustment from tackle to guard.
"I wouldn't say it was anything physical, he just hasn't had the opportunity to play the position," he said. "The days he has, he's shown well. I'm anxious to see him in the game."
Chudzinski said he's trying to have a couple of options and create some depth on the line.
"I think we want to have a couple of different options and see how those play out over the course of the next couple of weeks in the games."
