Lewis could be pitching off a mound in March

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The rehab timeline for Texas Rangers starting pitcher Colby Lewis is beginning to take shape.
Lewis, who briefly met with team doctor Keith Meister on Wednesday, said he's hopeful he'll be able to pitch off a mound in early March. The right-hander is recovering from flexor tendon surgery, undergoing the procedure at the end of last July.
"I think I'm going to get off the mound in early March," Lewis said. "They released me to play catch and do all the fundamentals and stuff."
Lewis is playing catch from 120 feet. He's scheduled to do that again Thursday and then will begin throwing from 135 feet before taking another step in his return. The original guess on a return to the rotation for Lewis was late May or early June.
Lewis was pleased to be able to participate in the fielding drills because he thought it was a good test for his arm.
"It makes my arm work a little more," he said. "It's not just catch stuff. It's a heating up. It cools off and then heats back up. It's good for it."
