RUSTON – Louisiana Tech seniors Melanie Goff and Amanda Krueger were both voted to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association all-state first team while teammates Janna Frandrup and Erin Kipp earned second team honors.
Freshman Kristen Miles earned honorable mention accolades as UL-Lafayette, LSU and Northwestern State took home the specialty awards after all three programs earned NCAA Tournament appearances this season.
A Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel of media and sports publicists selected the All-Louisiana team, based on statistics and performances through the teams' conference tournaments.
LA Tech’s four members on the first and second teams tied Northwestern State for the third most in the state behind only UL-Lafayette (6) and LSU (5).
UL-Lafayette’s Sarah Draheim and Jordan Wallace garnered the Hitter of the Year and Pitcher of the Year honors while Northwestern State’s Donald Pickett earned the Coach of the Year award.
LSU shortstop Bianka Bell was named the Freshman of the Year while LSU pitcher Ashley Czechner and Northwestern State pitcher Kaylee Guidry tied for Newcomer of the Year honors.
Krueger was named first team all-state at second base after batting .318 on the year with nine doubles, six home runs, 38 runs and 25 RBI. The Warren, Oregon native drew 37 walks on the season and successfully stole 15 of 19 bases. She earned first team all-WAC honors while also being named to the WAC All-Tournament Team.
Goff earned first team honors on the team at the utility position after batting .345 on the year with eight doubles, 15 runs and 32 RBI. In the circle, she was 4-5 with four saves along with a 2.96 earned run average. The San Diego native earned second team all-WAC honors while also being named to the WAC All-Tournament team.
Frandrup was named second team all-state at third base after batting .300 on the year with 45 hits, four doubles, 17 runs and 26 RBI. The Phoenix, Arizona native started 52 games on the year while committing only five errors at a position that she started only 10 games at during her previous three seasons.
Kipp earned her position on the second team as the designated player after batting .349 on the year with 14 doubles, four home runs, 27 runs and 22 RBI. She also stole 11 bases on the year while being named to the NFCA 2nd team All-Central Region, second team all-WAC and the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Miles was named honorable mention after a freshman season that saw her bat .331 with 52 hits, three doubles, 37 runs and 16-of-19 stolen bases. She was named the LSWA Hitter of the Week on March 14. The Plano, Texas native batted .463 in 18 games against in-state schools.
