MINNEAPOLIS — Rookie point guard Ricky Rubio will undergo reconstruction surgery on his torn left ACL on Wednesday, the Minnesota Timberwolves announced Friday.

Dr. Richard Steadman of the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., will perform the surgery. Steadman's practice is renown for performing arthroscopic and open knee surgery on athletes.

Rubio injured his knee with 16 seconds remaining in the Timberwolves' loss to the Lakers on March 9. Before the injury, the starting point guard was averaging 10.6 points and 8.2 assists per game. He will be out for the remainder of the season with the injury. Without him, the Timberwolves are 1-2.
