DALLAS — Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler has been busy since the Rangers unexpected end to a once-promising season.
He's been playing lots of golf. He's been getting ready for the holidays. He's been spending time with his family.
One thing Kinsler hasn't done is concern himself with a possible position switch with the Rangers.
"It's not my job to think about that," Kinsler said. "It's my job to play baseball."
Kinsler said the club hasn't contacted him about switching positions. Moving Kinsler to the outfield would free up a spot at second base for super prospect Jurickson Profar if the club thinks Profar is ready to play in the majors every day.
Kinsler has been the Rangers' everyday second baseman since he began his big league career in 2006. He hit .256 this season with 19 home runs and 72 RBI this season, but also matched his career high with 15 errors.
Kinsler was in Dallas on Thursday with his wife Tess to host a Thanksgiving dinner at Family Gateway, which helps homeless families. The couple also provided winter clothes to children and birthday gifts to children as part of the Birthday Party Project.
"When it comes to the holiday season and it comes to giving to the people, there's nothing better than that," said Kinsler, who has begun his offseason workouts. "This is our opportunity to give back and to help some people out. There are a lot of lessons to be learned.
"There's really no place better to be during the holiday season. It's extremely important. It has nothing to do with the amount of money you have, where you live or what you drive or anything like that. It has to do with providing something that other people can't provide for themselves. It makes you feel great and it makes them feel great."
