Kingsbury says Texas Tech QB Mayfield 'day-to-day'

Kliff Kingsbury's not sure when quarterback Baker Mayfield will return from a knee injury, but he won't be out for the rest of the season.
"It wasn't the structural damage we thought," he said on Monday. Kingsbury described Mayfield's status as "day-to-day."
Mayfield took an awkward hit to his lower right leg in the third quarter of Texas Tech's 54-16 win over Kansas and tried to get up, but eventually had to be helped off the field. He couldn't put any weight on the leg and left the field on crutches.
Davis Webb replaced him, and quarterback Michael Brewer, thought to be the starter for 2013 at the end of 2012, earned his first playing time of the season after recovering from a back injury.
"I don't know who the starter will be this week," Kingsbury said. "I have to see what Mayfield can do in practice this week."
Mayfield could return to practice as soon as Monday. He got off to a fast start with seven touchdowns before his first interception of the season. He leads the Big 12 with 1,488 passing yards. He's thrown eight touchdowns and five interceptions, and has rushed for two touchdowns this season, including one on Saturday.
