Kiffin: Cowboys should study Seahawks' D

How will the Dallas Cowboys' new 4-3 defensive scheme look next season? Monte Kiffin says watch film of the 2012 Seattle Seahawks if you want an example.

During a Monday interview on 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys defensive lineman Jason Hatcher said he chatted with Kiffin 2-3 weeks ago about the defensive scheme change the team would be making. Kiffin didn't confirm where Hatcher would be playing – Hatcher said he thinks it will be at the three-technique tackle position – but advised the 30-year-old to study tape of the Seahawks' defense.

On Tuesday, Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr said Kiffin gave him the same advice.

"He said the exact same thing," Carr said on 105.3. "I kind of asked him what our philosophy and what the look of our defense was going to be, and as a prime example he said, 'Go see Seattle film and you'll probably learn a lot from those guys and just watch how they move on the field.' That's some homework for me to do for the next couple of weeks."

Carr and Hatcher both mentioned how they liked the aggressiveness that Seattle showed.

The Seahawks finished fourth in total defense and first in scoring defense in 2012, holding opponents to 306.2 yards and 15.3 points per game. The Cowboys allowed 355.4 yards and 25.0 points per game.

Seattle finished 11-5, which included a 27-7 defeat of the Cowboys in Week 2. The Seahawks then defeated the Washington Redskins in the Wild Card round of the playoffs before falling to the Atlanta Falcons, 30-28, the following week.
