Keppinger activated; Allen sent to the DL

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Tampa Bay Rays have activated infielder Jeff Keppinger from the restricted list and put first baseman-outfielder Brandon Allen on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right quadriceps.
The Rays made the moves before Thursday night's game against New York. Keppinger started at designated hitter -- he's 8 for 17 lifetime against Yankees starter CC Sabathia.
Keppinger missed Wednesday night's 4-1 win at Yankee Stadium because of a personal matter. Allen delivered a pinch-hit single during a ninth-inning rally and hustled to take second on the outfield throw.
Matt Joyce, who twisted his left ankle while hitting the go-ahead homer in the ninth, said he didn't expect to miss any time. He didn't start Thursday as the Rays went with mostly righty hitters.
