The college coaching carousel has landed Ohio native Vince Marrow a promotion for staying put.
Marrow, a Youngstown native who's considered one of college football's top recruiters, will stay at Kentucky with fellow Youngstown native Mark Stoops under a three-year contract extension.
New Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh had approached Marrow about adding him to the Wolverines staff, and Marrow landed a raise from Kentucky in deciding to stay.
Marrow and Stoops played high school football together at Youngstown Cardinal Mooney, which has now become an annual recruiting stop for the Wildcats. After Nebraska fired fellow Mooney grad Bo Pelini following last season, former Mooney linebacker Courtney Love announced his transfer from Nebraska to Kentucky.
Kentucky signed 11 Ohio recruits in its 2014 class and has seven Ohio commits for the class that will sign at the beginning of next month.
"Vince has been an important part of the growth of our program and I'm excited about his contract extension," Stoops tweeted. "This reaffirms the commitment (athletic director) Mitch Barnhart and our administration have for Kentucky football."
Marrow, 46, coached in NFL Europe, at the high school level, in the UFL and at the University of Toledo before catching on in a graduate assistant position under Pelini at Nebraska in 2011. He played at Youngstown State and Toledo and was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 1992.
