Kennesaw St wins inaugural game, beats ETSU 56-16

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) Trey White passed for 96 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 95 yards and another score to help Kennesaw State win its inaugural football game 56-16 over East Tennessee State on Thursday night.

The season opener for both teams was ETSU's first game since shutting down football for financial following the 2003 season.

Kennesaw State's Jae Bowen recovered a fumble by White in the end zone to put the Owls up 14-13 with 1:48 left in the first half. Three plays later, Nick Perrotta returned an interception 19 yards for a score to make it 21-13 at the break.

On the second play from scrimmage in the second half, White hit Justin Sumpter for a 69-yard scoring pass, the first of five-consecutive possessions ending with a touchdown for Kennesaw State.

The Owls rushed for 416 yards and six touchdowns, two by Bowen.
