Senior goaltender Alex Kangas is out for the season with a labral tear in his left hip and his time with the Gophers men's hockey team is all but done.

"Nobody wants to go out this way," Kangas said. "As a senior you want to be a leader and have a successful last year and go out on top. Unfortunately there's been some on- and off-ice problems for me this year but you've got to just roll with the punches."

Kangas played in only eight of the Gophers' 20 games this season games this season, going 2-5 with a .892 save percentage and allowing 3.12 goals per game.

Kangas' best season was his freshman year, when he took over for Jeff Frazee. In 2007-08, Kangas started the Gophers' final 21 games and set single-season goaltending records with a 1.98 goals against average and a .930 save percentage.
