For most people, taking a lap around a race track with a NASCAR star behind the wheel is the thrill of a lifetime.
However, for cancer survivors, simply beating the dreaded disease is hard to top.
Friday morning at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Chevrolet drivers Kasey Kahne and Danica Patrick tried to do just that as they helped kick off a partnership with the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" program.
In specially themed pink Chevrolet Camaro SS pace cars, Kahne and Patrick provided a special group of cancer survivors with the experience of riding along at high speeds at one of NASCAR's fastest tracks.
As a part of the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" program, Chevrolet will run the pink Camaro SS pace cars at Atlanta, Talladega and Martinsville. In addition, Chevrolet will donate $200 for every lap run under caution during these Sprint Cup Series events.
"We’re so proud that we are able to participate and contribute to the American Cancer Society’s ‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer’ initiative, and that this year we can expand it to even more events," said Jan Thomas, Chevy Racing NASCAR Marketing Manager.
"Every year we are overwhelmed by the positive response that we receive, and hopefully the pink pace cars will serve to help race fans remember all of the upcoming events in October, and remind everyone that we all can do our part in the fight against cancer."
