JUCO defensive tackle Jenkins picks Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- Junior college defensive tackle John Jenkins signed with Georgia on Saturday, providing an important late addition to an impressive class.
The 6-foot-4, 340-pound defender out of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is expected to start at nose tackle in Georgia's 3-4 defense.
Georgia lacked a massive run-stopper in the middle of its defensive line last season as it made the switch to a three-man front.
Coach Mark Richt has said any junior college player signed by Georgia is expected to contribute immediately.
Jenkins is Georgia's 26th signee. He chose Georgia over Florida and other Southeastern Conference schools in announcing his decision in his hometown of Meriden, Conn.
Jenkins' addition is another boost for Georgia's signing class and follows a 6-7 finish in 2010, Richt's first losing season in 10 seasons.
