Jones granted release from Golden Eagles

Transfers have piled up more than usual so far this offseason, and Marquette announced it is no exception to that increasingly popular trend.
Marquette coach Buzz Williams made it known Friday through a release that, after averaging around just seven minutes in two seasons in Milwaukee, rising sophomore forward Jamail Jones had been granted his release from the Golden Eagles program.
Jones was the 10th-ranked small forward nationally in the 2010 class and had plenty of expectations when he joined Marquette before the 2010 season. In a release at the time of his signing, Williams said Jones had reminded him of former Marquette guard Wesley Matthews, who now plays for the Portland Trail Blazers.
But Jones only earned one start in his two years with the program, averaging 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds in 46 career games. He struggled mightily on the offensive end, shooting just 33.7 percent from the floor in that time.
"We are thankful for Jamail's investment of time, energy and his character during his time with us," Williams said. "Everyone in our program will miss him greatly and wish him the absolute best as he pursues his academic and basketball career. We will all be cheering for his success."
