CINCINNATI (AP) John Hyden became the second-oldest winner in AVP Kingston beach volleyball tour history Sunday, teaming with Tri Bourne to take the Cincinnati Open.
At 42 years, 11 months, Hyden trails only Karch Kiraly, the winner of the last of his tour-record 122 titles in 2005 at 44 years, 9 months.
The fourth-seeded Bourne and Hyden beat Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson 21-15, 21-18 in the final, a day after knocking off the two-time defending champions in the winners' bracket quarterfinals. Hyden has 10 career titles, and Bourne has won twice.
Seventh-seeded Kelley Larsen and Betsi Metter Flint won the women's competition for their first titles, beating fourth-seeded Angela Bensend and Geena Urango 21-13, 18-21, 15-7 in the final.
