MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer is one step closer to his fourth Rawlings Gold Glove Award.
Mauer was announced Friday as one of three finalists for the award among American League catchers, joining Baltimore's Matt Wieters and Salvador Perez of Kansas City. The winner will be announced Tuesday.
The 30-year-old Mauer threw out a league-high 43 percent of potential base stealers this year, one season after gunning out a career-low 14 percent in 2012. In 75 games at catcher this season, Mauer had a fielding percentage of .996 with just three passed balls.
Mauer previously won this award in three consecutive seasons from 2008-10. Wieters won it from 2011-12, while Perez has yet to win a Gold Glove during his young three-year career.
