Jodie Meeks accepts two-year deal with Lakers

Reserve shooting guard Jodie Meeks has accepted a two-year deal worth about $3 million to play for the Lakers, The Times has learned.

The move hardly warrants the same headlines as the Lakers’ other blockbuster offseason moves in acquiring Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, but Meeks’ arrival gives the Lakers a solid option in relieving Kobe Bryant’s minutes and bolstering the team’s outside shooting.

The 6-foot-4 Meeks, who played for the Philadelphia 76ers in three of his four NBA seasons, averaged a career-high 37% from three-point range in the last two years.

He averaged 8.4 points and 2.4 rebounds in 25 minutes a game last season, when he played in all 66 games, starting 50.

Meeks’ second year is a team option.
