Jimbo Fisher still mulling position battles as FSU's fall camp comes to a close
Heavy rains fell over Florida State's campus Tuesday, forcing the Seminoles to move their second and final fall scrimmage into the team's $15 million practice facility.
Fall camp is coming to an end with the Seminoles just 11 days from their opening game against the Oklahoma State at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
"We're getting better and coming together as a family," senior wide receiver Rashad Greene said. "We're becoming one and becoming committed to this thing, and that's what is most important."
Head coach Jimbo Fisher said he doesn't feel like there's any areas of concern going into the season, but there are position battles.
"It's actually not that one guy can't play, it's that you've got two or three that are pretty close and you feel comfortable putting in the game," Fisher said.
The starting linebackers after junior Terrance Smith and the starting wide receivers after Rashad Greene are the two biggest spots up for grabs.
Fisher hinted toward senior Christian Green likely starting opposite Greene at wideout, with sophomore E.J. Levenberry and redshirt freshman Matthew Thomas joining Smith in the linebacker core.
"But I feel very comfortable with eight guys in the wide receiver rotation, I really do," Fisher added.
Tuesday's scrimmage was played without four key players, as left tackle Cam Erving, guard Josue Matias, and cornerbacks P.J. Williams and Ronald Darby did not dress because of injuries.
"We hope to get them back by Thursday," Fisher said. "But they'll be ready to play."
Fisher said the Seminoles will begin game preparation for Oklahoma State this Thursday.
