Jim Morris to step down as Miami baseball coach after 2018 season

Two head coaches are synonymous with the University of Miami baseball program: the late Ron Fraser and Jim Morris.
Morris, who agreed on Tuesday to a three-year extension, will hand over the reins to longtime assistant Gino DiMare after the 2018 season.
The 64-year-old has been at the helm since November 1993. In 21 seasons, Morris has led the Hurricanes to the NCAA postseason each year with 11 trips to the College World Series, a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference championships (2008, 2014) and two national titles (1999, 2001).
Morris ranks fourth among active Division I coaches in career victories with 931. From his time at Appalachian State (1975), DeKalb Community College (1976-79), Florida State (1980-81), Georgia Tech (1982-1993) and Miami (1994-present) he is 1,435-632-4.
DiMare -- the program's recruiting coordinator and hitting coach -- will enter his 16th season at Miami in 2014-15. He returned to the program in 2011 after three years away. DiMare played at UM from 1989-92 and with the Boston Red Sox organization from 1992-93.
"Gino possesses all of the ingredients of successful head coaches," director of athletics Blake James said in a statement. "I have no doubt that he will continue to bring conference and national championships to Coral Gables. As Jim leads our program through 2018, we have a plan in place for a smooth transition and continued excellence, and I couldn't be happier that Gino will be our next head baseball coach."
