Jets considered colors to help struggling Smith

By Sid Saraf, FOXSports.com This is a little embarrassing. Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith has shown some flashes of potential over his first four games as a pro. However, he's turned the ball over 11 times -- tying him for the league lead -- and head coach Rex Ryan has seen enough. As a result, the Jets coaching staff was considering giving Smith a color-coded wristband to help him cut down on mistakes. "Hey, whatever it takes," Ryan told the Associated Press. Let's break this down. On said wristband, plays in red would mean Smith should be conservative, yellow means cautious and green means be aggressive. Does this sound familiar? It should, because the Jets used a similar system with Mark Sanchez back in 2009. We all saw how well that worked out. Well, Rex changed his mind. ''To be honest with you, I don't plan on doing that now,'' Ryan told ESPN NY 98.7 on Wednesday. What's next? Should Rex walk Geno through his ABC's, too? I know, playing quarterback in the NFL is a gargantuan challenge. However you can't have the guy using training wheels and expect him to be successful. Just throw Geno out there. Either he swims or sinks. If he sinks, find somebody else. It's not like the Jets are a threat to make the playoffs. This team is a season or two away from that. Questions? Comments?
