Jerry Jones: 'My heart stopped' when Romo went down

When Tony Romo exited the game after taking a shot to his ribs Sunday night, it brought back memories of the fractured rib he suffered in San Francisco two years ago.

Heading out of the stadium late Sunday night, Romo assured that this injury isn't in the same class as the one in 2011.

But before knowing the extent of the injury, as Romo was laying on the AT&T Stadium turf, Jerry Jones was likely holding his breath.

"My heart stopped," the Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager told the New School show Tuesday morning on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. "I certainly wanted to get an immediate reading of where the injury was. Was it a shoulder or was it those ribs? We've seen him come back and actually play, bravely – and to not overuse the term at all – against San Francisco two years ago.

"I knew that he had the will to play if he could technically play. I was really relieved when we got to the locker room and the doctors were saying that he's going to be able to go and we're in pretty good shape. Nothing compared to the injury that he had a couple years ago."

As Romo walked past reporters at Valley Ranch on Monday, he said he was experiencing "a little pain" but added, "I'll be fine."

After having an X-Ray on Monday, it was determined that Romo bruised his ribs when he was sandwiched between New York Giants defenders Justin Trattou and Mathias Kiwanuka in the final minute of the first half.

Jones said he expects Romo to play on Sunday when the Cowboys travel to Kansas City.

"He's sore," Jones said. "He was there yesterday. I personally had a visit with him yesterday. We're all planning on him playing in the game."
