Jenner, Murray selected to represent Canada at IIHF World Championships

COLUMBUS, OH -- Columbus Blue Jackets forward Boone Jenner and defenseman Ryan Murray are among the first 18 players selected to represent Canada at the 2016 IIHF World Championships to be held from May 6-22 in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia, Hockey Canada announced on Monday.

Jenner, 22, set career highs with 30 goals and 19 assists for 49 points and 77 penalty minutes in 82 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He finished second on Columbus in goals and power play goals (nine) and third-T in points and was one of three Jackets to play in all 82 games (Murray, Gregory Campbell). The Dorchester, Ontario native has registered 55-40-95 and 134 penalty minutes in 185 career NHL games.

Columbus' first pick, 37th overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft, Jenner has suited up for Canada at three prior international tournaments. He participated at the 2012 (bronze) and 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships as well as the 2011 U18 Junior World Cup.

Murray, 22, was tied for second among club defensemen in assists and points, setting career highs in both categories as well as penalty minutes and games played with 4-21-25 and 40 penalty minutes in 82 games. The Regina, Saskatchewan native has collected 9-40-49 with 58 penalty minutes in 160 career NHL games.


Columbus' first pick, second overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft, Murray has represented Canada at four international tournaments. The Regina, Saskatchewan native became the second-youngest player to represent Hockey Canada at the IIHF World Championships after playing in the 2012 tournament and has participated in the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships (bronze), the 2011 World Under-18 Junior Championships and the 2010 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. He was among the first 16 players selected to represent Team North America at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey held from September 17 to October 1, 2016 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
