Jarred Cosart to make Marlins debut Friday vs. Reds

MIAMI -- Newly acquired right-hander Jarred Cosart will make his Miami Marlins debut as Friday's starter against the Cincinnati Reds at Marlins Park.
Cosart will take the place of right-hander Jacob Turner, who went 2-0 with a 2.53 ERA in his past two outings since rejoining the rotation. Cosart, 24, was 9-7 with a 4.41 ERA with the Houston Astros.
In order to make room on both the 25- and 40-man rosters after Thursday's deadline trade, the Marlins optioned both utility player Ed Lucas and left-handed reliever Dan Jennings to Triple-A New Orleans, while designating left-handed reliever Donnie Joseph.
Lucas, who was recalled Wednesday, was batting .239 with three doubles, a homer and seven RBI in 51 games. Jennings was 0-1 with a 1.15 ERA in 35 appearances but had allowed 11 of 20 inherited runners to score.
Miami acquired Joseph from the Kansas City Royals on June 30 for cash considerations. In six outings with the Zephyrs, the 26-year-old surrendered nine runs on 12 hits in 7 1/3 innings, going 1-0 with a 11.05 ERA.
Utility player Kike Hernandez will also join the big-league club for Friday's game. Outfielder Austin Wates will report to Triple-A New Orleans.
