South Carolina star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was ticketed by South Carolina Highway Patrol on Saturday for driving 110 miles per hour in a 70-mph zone.
According to police, Clowney was pulled over on Instate 77 around 7:30 p.m., north of Columbia, S.C., where he was charged with a six-point speeding violation. Clowney was driving a Chrysler 300 and was reportedly cooperative with law enforcement.
Police told WCBD-TV in Charleston that any speeding violation in excess of 25 mph over the speed limit is considered "reckless" and could warrant arrest.
Clowney was named an All-American following a stellar sophomore campaign in 2012, but his junior season was far less productive as opposing offenses keyed on him. He posted 36 tackles and three sacks, including one in the rivalry game against Clemson on Nov. 30, on the season, taking home All-SEC honors.
The 6-foot-6, 274-pound Clowney is projected to be a top-10 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
The Gamecocks' final game of the season will come in the Capital One Bowl against Wisconsin on New Year's Day.
