After Indiana's 90-71 men's basketball victory over Minnesota on Sunday, coach Tom Crean fielded questions while standing beside longtime Hoosiers fan Brian Jones, who is battling ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).

"I went to see Brian in hospice a few weeks ago," Crean said. "I visited with him and his family. I learned a little bit about him before I went there. I know Brian is an absolute diehard Indiana fan for a long time, as his family has been."

Crean called Jones a "model of perseverance." Unbeknownst to Jones, Crean said he had been planning to bring him along for a press conference for a few weeks.

"It's a rare, rare person that can make you feel better about you when you're there trying to make them feel better about them," Crean said. "And that's what this guy's got."
