Sam Hornish Jr. isn't loud, braggadocios or the kind of amped-up, on-the-edge guy that so many racers are.
Yes, Hornish is fast and talented in a race car, which is why he landed at Joe Gibbs Racing, where this year he'll run a partial NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule.
But at the heart of the matter, Hornish is a family guy, with humble Midwestern roots and an appreciation of small-town values, two very good traits to have.
Last November, when Hornish was racing for a NASCAR Nationwide Series championship, he was asked about his 2014 plans.
"The only plan I have at this point is I know around early February I'm going to be going to the hospital with my wife," Hornish said at Homestead-Miami Speedway prior to the final race of the season. "We're getting ready to have our third kid. ... I told my wife ... 'Next year is going to be great regardless of what happens. My No. 1 priority is to you and the kids. Outside of that, I'll try to do the things I want to do, but I have to make sure those are taken care of first of all.'"
Well, guess what? The baby has arrived.

Indeed, Sam Hornish III is the newest member of the Hornish family, joining Sam, Sam's wife, Crystal, and their daughters Addison and Eliza.
