Ireland pick fresh XV for Canada

DUBLIN (AP) Ireland changed its entire starting XV from the historic win over the All Blacks in Chicago for the home match against Canada on Saturday.

Lock Donnacha Ryan was the only starter to make the matchday lineup, and he was in the reserves. Meanwhile, seven players who were reserves in Chicago last weekend were starting at Lansdowne Road in a test of Ireland's depth.

Flanker Peter O'Mahony, who captains Munster, will lead Ireland in his first test since the Rugby World Cup, where he ruptured right knee ligaments, and didn't play again until last month.

Three will make their debut: Lock Billy Holland, No. 8 Jack O'Donoghue, and outside center Garry Ringrose.

There were five more on the bench waiting for their first cap: Forwards James Tracy, John Ryan, and Dan Leavy, and backs Luke McGrath and Niyi Adeolokun.

Ireland beat New Zealand 40-29 for the first time, but has never lost to Canada.

Canada welcomed back flyhalf Connor Braid, center Conor Trainor, and winger DTH van der Merwe, while England-based lock Brett Beukeboom was the only change in the pack from the last outing, a 20-18 home loss to Italy in June. Beukeboom was in for unavailable captain Jamie Cudmore.

No. 8 Aaron Carpenter was leading the side, and moving to within one cap of Al Charron's Canada's record of 76.

''We have to do well on Saturday so that we get credibility, so that we can face off against other tier one teams,'' Canada coach Mark Anscombe said.
