International Champions Cup profile: Juventus

On August 6 and 7, eight prestigious clubs from across Europe and the United States will call South Florida home for two days as they compete for the coveted International Champions Cup Trophy. In the third of an eight-part series, we take a look at Juventus.
Juventus is the oldest and most successful soccer team in Italy, having won 56 championships, including 31 league titles, nine Italian Cups, five Italian super cups, nine European cups and two international cups in the clubs 115 year history. The team has achieved recent success, winning the past two league championships.
The Old Lady, as Juventus is known, is led by veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who has been with the club since 2001, and midfielder Andrea Pirlo.
Buffon is view as one of the top goal keepers in the history of soccer, while Pirlo was recently ranked as the fifth best soccer player in the world by Bloomberg Sports. Both men played a crucial role in Italy’s 2006 World Cup victory.
The Juventus squad also features world renowned players Giorgio Chiellini and Arturo Vidal, both of whom currently play for the Italian National team.
To add to their already star-studded roster, Juventus recently made headlines by adding former Manchester City forward and Argentinian national team member Carlos Tévez . Upon signing with the squad, some controversy did arise as Tévez was given the #10, which was previously worn by long tenured Juventus star Alessandro Del Piero.
Juventus, managed by former player Antoine Conte, will begin the International Champions Cup by playing Everton F.C. in San Fransciso’s AT&T Park before making their way to Sun Life Stadium on August 6th and 7th.
