GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) Flyhalf Finn Russell was ruled out of Scotland's two-test rugby tour of Japan on Tuesday while he lay in a Dublin hospital with what was described as a serious head injury.

Russell remained under observation after clashing heads with Glasgow teammate Zander Fargeson in the Pro12 semifinals on Saturday in Galway.

The Scottish Rugby Union confirmed on Tuesday he was out of the tour.

Russell, capped by Scotland 19 times, was improving, won't need surgery, and should be discharged this week, the Glasgow Warriors said in a statement.

Russell was also concussed against France in March in the Six Nations.

Scotland gathers on June 6 for the tour, and plays Japan on June 18, and again a week later.
