Indians in talks to acquire Moss from Oakland

The Indians could be in position to make a trade before leaving for next week's Winter Meetings.
First reported by John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group and confirmed by sources to Fox Sports Ohio, the Tribe is talking to the Athletics about acquiring first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss.
Moss would go a long way toward providing the Indians with an upgrade in power. According to STATS LLC, over the past three seasons Moss is averaging a home run per 15.93 at-bats, which is eighth in the American League and ninth in the majors. During that span, he batted .254 with 76 home runs and 220 RBI.
Last season Moss made the AL All-Star team after batting .268 with 21 home runs and 66 RBI. He battled hip problems after the break, though, and hit just .173 with four home runs and 15 RBI. However, in the AL Wild Card game at Kansas City he had two home runs and drove in five runs.
Moss, who turned 31 on Sept. 16, had hip surgery five weeks ago but indications are he would be ready for Spring Training. Indians manager Terry Francona is also familiar with Moss, who came up through the Red Sox system and played 49 games in 2007-08 before being traded to the Pirates. Moss has also been with the Phillies.
Besides playing first, Moss could play any of the corner outfield spots and designated hitter. He also isn't eligible for free agency for two more seasons.
Oakland is looking to revamp its roster. After having one of the best records in the Majors the first three months of the season, the Athletics faltered during the second half before managing to clinch a playoff spot. Last week they traded third baseman Josh Donaldson to Toronto for Brett Lawrie and three prospects. Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said when the season concluded that he felt the organization would be well positioned to make trades based on the depth of the farm system.
Over his career, Moss is 11 for 34 (.324) at Progressive Field with two home runs and 10 RBI.
