Indians announce two-year extension for Cabrera

<p>The Cleveland Indians officially announced the signing of All-Star shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera to a two-year contract extension.</p><p>The $16.5 million deal goes into effect after this season, and buys out one year of potential free agency. Cabrera will remain in Cleveland through 2014.</p><p>The switch-hitter avoided arbitration over the winter when he signed a one-year, $4.55 million deal.</p><p>Cabrera, 26, had a breakout season in 2011, batting .273 with 25 homers and 92 RBIs. He led AL shortstops in RBIs, was tied for first in hits (165) and was second in doubles (32) and runs (87).<br><br>
