Indians add Nunnally as hitting coach

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Cleveland Indians have hired Jon Nunnally as their hitting coach.

Nunnally spent last season as hitting coach for Triple-A Columbus. He has been with Cleveland's organization for three years since retiring as a player in 2006.

The 38-year-old played in the majors from 1995-2000 with Kansas City, Cincinnati, Boston and the New York Mets.

He started his career in the Indians' minor league system in 1992 after he was drafted by Cleveland. Nunnally batted .246 with 42 homers and 125 RBIs in 364 major league games.

Nunnally is the final addition to new manager Manny Acta's coaching staff. Acta previously added Tim Belcher as his pitching coach, Scott Radinsky as bullpen coach, Sandy Alomar as first base coach, Steve Smith as third base coach and Tim Tolman as bench coach.
