INDORE, India (AP) Ravi Ashwin took three quick wickets and completed a run-out in the middle session Monday, giving India control on the third day of the third test as New Zealand slumped to 216-6 at tea.

James Neesham was unbeaten on 37 and Mitchell Santner was on 6 not out, with New Zealand still 341 runs behind India's imposing first-innings total of 557-5 declared.

Ashwin (4-65) was heavily involved as New Zealand lost four wickets for 14 runs after the lunch break, beginning when Kane Williamson (8) was bowled in the 43rd over.

Ross Taylor and Luke Ronchi didn't score before edging to slip, with Ajinkya Rahane pulling off two sharp catches. Having found some form, Martin Guptill (72) was unlucky to be run-out backing up when Ashwin got his fingers to a Ronchi drive and deflected the ball onto stumps at the non-striker's end.

Neesham added 53 runs with BJ Watling (23) to stem the rout. But Ravindra Jadeja (1-48) struck in the lead-up to tea when Watling edged to slip.

India has clinched the three-test series after winning the first and second tests.
