* Rookie Chris Archer returned to form, and shortstop Yunel Escobar collected three hits as the Rays topped the Twins in the first game of their series and gave themselves a little bit of breathing room in the wild-card race. Read More

* Right fielder Giancarlo Stanton showed off his power Friday night, blasting two home runs, but they weren’t enough as the Marlins dropped their series opener to the Mets in New York. Read More

* Dolphins rookie cornerbacks Jamar Taylor and Will Davis have been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Colts in Indianapolis. Third-string quarterback Pat Devlin has also been been ruled out. Read More

* Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson was fined $30,000 for his hit on Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland in the second quarter of the Bucs’ road loss last Sunday. Read More

* The Jacksonville Jaguars will likely be without tight end Marcedes Lewis in Oakland on Sunday. Lewis, who is recovering from a calf injury, is listed as doubtful against the Raiders. Read More

* There is a chance Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Carl Nicks could play Sunday. Bucs coach Greg Schiano left open the possibility Friday, when asked about the two-time Pro Bowl player's status in advance of Tampa Bay's Week 2 matchup against the New Orleans Saints at Raymond James Stadium. Read More

* Terrence Brooks was a star. He knew it. His coaches knew it. Florida State's coaches saw it. But the recruiting analysts weren't so sure. They had Brooks as a three-star prospect, placing him in a category where he was projected to just as easily miss as hit at the college level. Read More

* It might not be the best formula for winning in the NFL. But the last time the Miami Dolphins had a rushing game this putrid, they also were victorious. It was 2006. Miami had 13 carries for a team record-low seven yards, but still somehow beat Minnesota 24-20. The Dolphins last Sunday carried 23 times for 20 yards, the third-lowest total in team history.
