In this photo by David J. Phillip, decathlete Ashton Eaton celebrates winning the decathlon's 400-meter race at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing. He set a world record, running the distance in 45.00 seconds, and extended his lead through five events. The defending world champion has 4,703 points after the event's first day, a lead of 173 over Damian Warner of Canada. Eaton set the world record of 9,039 points at the U.S. Olympic trials for the 2012 London Games, where he won gold. The decathlon concludes Saturday.
