Illness has forced Ricardo Osorio to leave the Mexico national team and return to Monterrey for treatment, the Mexican Football Federation announced late Monday.
Osorio has recently complained of pain in his urinary tract, and with a family history of prostate disease, Mexico's technical and medical staff decided to take no chances in treating the 31-year-old's illness.
The defender, who joined Monterrey from Bundesliga club Stuttgart last year, was not selected in coach Jose Manuel de la Torre's bench for Mexico's Gold Cup opener against El Salvador. El Tri would go on to win the match, defeating the Salvadorans 5-0 on Sunday in Dallas.
Osorio had been treated for similar symptoms earlier in camp before returning to training. On Monday, Osorio reported renewed pain, leading to his return to Mexico.
Mexican federation spokesman Hector Gonzalez Inarritu expressed hope the Rayado would make a quick return to the team.
Osorio has been capped 82 times by El Tri, making appearances at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. As a 23-year-old, Osorio was a member of the Mexico team that won the 2003 Gold Cup.
Mexico's next match in this year's Gold Cup is on Thursday, in Charlotte, against Cuba.
