Seventh-ranked St. Cloud State held off host Minnesota on Friday night at Mariucci Arena in men's hockey action, winning by a 3-2 margin.
Joey Benik provided the game-winner for St. Cloud State, lighting the lamp at 7:16 of the third period to account for the game's final score.
Minnesota had led, 2-1, at the 16:31 mark of the second period, off a wraparound goal from Leon Bristedt. Bristedt tallied his third multi-point game of the season, and his goal represented his sixth tally of the young campaign. The sophomore has now surpassed his season total from last year through just 10 games.
St. Cloud State knotted things on Friday off a Jimmy Murray power-play tally early in the final stanza, and the Huskies seized control from that point forward.
St. Cloud State (10-3-0 overall) got 24 saves from junior Charlie Lindgren.
The host Gophers, now 4-6-0 overall, got 25 stops from netminder Eric Schierhorn.
The two in-state rivals return to action on Sunday at 6 p.m., in a game set to be televised by FOX Sports North.
